| Abstract(in English) | Previous research on structural priming has reported that the effect of priming is enhanced when the verb is repeated between prime and target in head-initial languages (e.g., Pickering & Branigan, 1998). The present study investigated whether such a lexical boost effect also occurs with Japanese, a head-final language. Two experiments examined this phenomenon with Japanese passive and active structures using a picture description task. The results demonstrated an effect of priming with these structures and more importantly, showed evidence for a lexical boost effect. Our study thus suggests that structural representations of Japanese active and passive structures are associated with the verb irrespective of the position in the structures. |
