Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this study, an event-related potential (ERP) experiment was conducted to investigate Japanese EFL learners' sensitivity to linguistic information, including morphosyntactic (regular/irregular verb), semantic, and phrase structural information, during sentence processing. Learners with intermediate and lower proficiency participated in the experiment and read sentences with correct or incongruent information. The results revealed that Japanese EFL learners are sensitive to the morphosyntactic information of the regular verb and the semantic information, but they are not sensitive to the morphosyntactic information of the irregular verb and the phrase structural information. These results indicate that morphosyntactic and phrase structural processing are not as automatic for Japanese EFL learners.
