Effect of STBC Diversity on Single-Carrier Multi-User MIMO Downlink using Tomlinson-Harashima Precoding

Abstract(in English) Single-carrier (SC) space-time block coded-joint transmit/receive diversity (STBC-JTRD) is a single user (SU) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) diversity scheme which is suitable for downlink transmission. SC-STBC-JTRD can obtain both frequency diversity gain and spatial diversity gain. Extending SU-MIMO diversity to multi-user (MU) transmissions is not easy since the MIMO channels must be made orthogonal for each user. In MU-MIMO using Tomlinson-Harashima precoding (THP), inter-user interference (IUI) is subtracted at the transmitter to avoid IUI at the receivers while suppressed the transmit power increase by Modulo operation. MU-MIMO using THP combined with broadband SC transmission using transmit frequency-domain equalization (FDE) achieves a good downlink transmission performance. In this paper, we introduce SC-STBC-JTRD into MU-MIMO downlink using THP. We evaluate the average bit error rate (BER) performance by computer simulation.
