Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have studied an application of Raman amplification to the existing passive optical networks (PON). We focus on the upgrade of 10G-EPON (also XG-PON) systems for increasing the transmission distance and the splitting number using the previously proposed fiber-based hybrid-Raman amplification. For a fiber-based hybrid-Raman amplification, we use an Erbium-doped fiber (EDF) and a high-nonlinear fiber (HNLF). We report gains and bit-error transmission characteristics of the proposed hybrid-Raman amplification.
