Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) From the computational viewpoint, Lengyel et al. (2005) derived an optimal auto-associative memory algorithm to store and retrieve memory spike phase patterns. Moreover, they derived optimal relation between the coupling function and the spike-timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) window function for executing the algorithm. From the hardware viewpoint, we here derive an auto-associative memory algorithm, and compare optimal pairs of coupling function and STDP window function which are derived from our study with those from the previous study. First, we formulate an auto-associative memory algorithm as a phase reduction model consisting of a spike-timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) window function and a coupling function which is formalized in terms of a phase response curve (PRC). Next, we analytically derive the mutual information a stored phase pattern and the network retrieval pattern, and use it to evaluate memory retrieval performance. By maximizing the mutual information, we derive optimal pairs of STDP window functions and coupling functions. In line with the previous study, we search for a set of optimal coupling functions that are matched to the typical STDP window function. In the zero noise limit, we obtained the same relation between the coupling function and the STDP window function that Lengyel et al. derived.
