A Study on the Deployment of Device-to-Device Communication under LTE-Advanced networks

Abstract(in English) In 3GPP (The 3rd-Generation Partnership Project) standardization, it has been discussed to adopt Device-to-Device (D2D) communication in LTE (Long-Term Evolution)-Advanced Networks. In LTE-Advanced D2D communication, a part of the radio resources for cellular communications can be used for D2D communications. In this paper, some ways to allocate radio resources for D2D communication are discussed: the allocation of exclusive radio resources to D2D communication, the allocation of radio resources shared between cellular communication and D2D communication, and the allocation of both exclusive and shared resources for D2D communication. It is observed that the 50%-tile uplink SINR decreases by around 1.6 dB when the resource allocation is changed from exclusive allocation to the shared allocation between cellular communication and D2D communication. We also compared the obtained SINR distribution with the case that all the users communicates with its serving base stations. It is observed that there is significant improvement in the high SINR region. However, in case of the resource allocation shared between cellular communication and D2D communication, it is observed that there is severe degradation in the low SINR region.
