Abstract(in English) We propose a concept for a novel optical switching system utilizing seven-core fibers for high-capacity/high-reliability data transmission. And a prototype optical switch unit was fabricated, whith has standby cores for optical signals in each MCF reserved for redundancy operation and enable quick restoration at the time of a disaster. The prototype has three kinds of constitution. They are priority to throughput, priority to path switching speed and priority to protection reliability, in which the ratio of the numbers of signal cores and those of standby cores are 2:1, 1:1 and 1:2 each. The last constitution can realize reliable switching by searching for standby cores.
