In-line Type of H-Plane Waveguide TE_<10>-TE_ Mode Transducer and Its Application

Abstract(in English) This paper presents a design methodology of H-plane waveguide TE_<10>-TE_ mode transducers consisting of a single-mode waveguide (SMWG) and an over-moded one (OMWG) connected parallel to each other. A longitudinal mid-plane of an SMWG is considered a magnetic wall equivalently because of only a dominant TE_<10>-mode propagation, while that of an OMWG becomes electric or magnetic according as the higher-order propagation mode index (p) is even or odd. Therefore, we should off-set the guide-axes of SMWG and OMWG for even p, though we can connect them directly for odd p. In order to realize a matched state and suppress undesired propagation modes, several full-height metallic posts are optimally arranged in the OMWG of the above in-line connection structure. Actually, the TE_<10> to TE_<20>, TE_<30>, and TE_<50> mode transducers are designed, and relatively wide bandwidths of 8~15% are realized for return loss and unnecessary- modes suppression better than 20 dB. Moreover, the validity of the design results is demonstrated experimentally by measurement of a TE_<10>-TE_<30> mode transducer made as a trial. Additionally, an H-plane waveguide p-way power divider/combiner is suggested on the basis of the TE_<10>-TE_ mode transducer, and the development to the SIW circuit is also described.
