Experimental Study on Elevation Directional Channel Properties to Evaluate Performance of 3D Beamforming at Base Station in LOS Microcell Environment

Abstract(in English) 3D beamforming which controls main beam direction of base station (BS) antenna over both the azimuth dimension and elevation dimension is studied. In this paper, we investigated elevation directional channel property at BS in LOS microcell environmet based on measurement result of vector channel sounder. Specifically, properties of EoD (Elevation angle of departure) distribution, elevation angular spreasd (ESD) and mean EoD are studied. As a result, we clarified following points; (1) The peak direction of average EoD distribution has bias of depressin angle direction from LOS angle from BS to MS. (2) Average ESD are about 5 degrees and ESD does not have clear dependency on distance between BS and MS. (3) Average mean EoD has slight bias of depressin angle direction from LOS and does not have clear dependency on distance between BS and MS.
