Abstract(in English) In a snowy country, snow removal by snow blowers is important activity for preventing traffic accidents. In order to support efficient activities of the snow blowers, an inexpensive system which can be deployed in various places and can be used to understand conditions of snowfall in a wide area is needed. In this study, we propose a sensor network system which obtains sensor data from distance sensors dispersed over a wide area, and publishes geographical distribution of the amount of snow cover and snowfall though the Internet. In this paper, in order to confirm practicality of the system sensor data of experimental evaluation in Jan. and Feb. 2013 and public weather data of a Meteorological Agency are compared between each other. Furthermore, sensor data obtained from two types of distance sensors, ultrasonic and infrared, are compared to judge which sensor is suitable for building the proposed snowfall observation system.
