Abstract(in English) | Software defined networking technologies like OpenFlow enable network infrastructure owners to use network resources flexibly and easily provide networks customized for specific application services. However, hardware OpenFlow switches are expensive because they must support a wide range of matching rules including wildcards for packet header information. The cost for deploying large-scale OpenFlow networks is extremely high because a large number of such expensive switches are necessary. In this study, we propose a framework to limit the packet header matching in OpenFlow switches only to exact matching for L2 MAC addresses. We extend our flow space virtualization technique for the framework. Manufacturing cost of those OpenFlow switches that only support L2 exact matching is considered to be low enough to open up the possibility of large-scale OpenFlow networks. |
