Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To provide stable communication services, not only quality and traffic design, but also traffic control technologies play a key role in satisfying a broad range of user demands and operating telecommunication networks efficiently. Traffic control is defined as a mechanism that efficiently allocates limited system resources to communication requests satisfying quality-of-service (QoS) requirements under variable traffic conditions. In this article, we review and classify the traffic control technologies, and introduce the topics in the near future. Firstly as background, we give the recent market growth of mobile communication services and the major change of mobile device usage from voice to Internet applications which require much more sophisticated traffic control solutions. Secondly, we classify traffic control technologies into three categories: volume control, sequence control, and route control. Thirdly, we introduce the case studies of stochastic model analysis for traffic control schemes. Finally, we discuss future research directions of traffic control.
