Abstract(in English) | This study examined the influence of speaker's facial expression on observer's spoken language comprehension. Participants were presented with a movie showing a female speaking an expository story with angry, happy, or neutral facial expression. Participants were asked to rate the degree of comprehension of the spoken story, and answer the question about literal memory and sentential comprehension of the story. The results showed that when the speaker's facial expression was anger, participants' subjective rating of comprehension was lower than other conditions, but the percentages of correct responses to the questions were not significantly different among three conditions. In addition, the analysis of the participants' eye-movements revealed that observers fixate the speaker's eye more than the mouse during movie presentation. |
