Assessment of Self-Modifying-Based Tamper Resistant Technology in Smart Phone Platform

Abstract(in English) The spread of smartphones in recent years demands superior technologies to improve tamper resistance of applications run over smartphones. Conventional methods using self-modification are effective but originally targeting C language software. Thus it is not easy to directly apply the methods to Android application that is described in Java. Therefore, we implement in C language, the modules which tamper-resistance should be increased, using the Android NDK software development kit and then applied the self-modification methods to the modules. We conduct performance assessment of the resultant application run over a platform that is actually a smartphone evaluation board.
