Abstract(in English)	It is about 30 years since an optical fiber was introduced into commercial optical communication systems. Since then, optical fiber cable technologies have became sophisticated ones. Optical communication systems utilizing the radio technology has been developed to increase the transmission capacity. The research and development on the innovative optical fiber cable technology for further transmission capacity expansion has been started. In this lecture, the fundamentals of the optical fiber is described, which is necessary to develop such a new optical fiber cable. The recent progress and the international standardization of the optical fiber are also described.
