Evaluation on block diagonalization using beam selection in MU-MIMO transmission with user scheduling

Abstract(in English) Multiuser MIMO (MU-MIMO) improves the system channel capacity by employing the transmission between a base station and multiple user terminals(UTs). Block Diagonalization(BD) has been proposed as the practical algorithm in MU-MIMO broadcast channel. However, when the number of transmit antennas is equals to the total number of received antennas, the transmission rate by the BD algorithm is decreased. We proposed the beam selection method at the UT to reduce the number of nulls for the other users except an intended user by the BD algorithm. In this report, the transmission rate by the proposed method and the conventional BD algorithm are compared when considering user scheduling which is effective for MU-MIMO systems. It is shown that the channel capacity by the conventional BD is higher than that by the proposed method when considering the user scheduling. On the other hand, it is verified that the proposed method achieves the higher transmission rate compared to the conventional method with and without the user scheduling when considering the modulation scheme on IEEE802.11ac standard.
