Bandgap Frequency Control on Open Stub Electromagnetic Bandgap Structures Loaded with Capacitive Patches

Abstract(in English) As multiband wireless communications in gigahertz frequency, like wireless LAN and LTE, are becoming commonplace, methods against electromagnetic noise are being required to cover these wireless communication bands. An electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure is a promising method against power plane noise (PPN) in gigahertz region. In this paper, we propose new open stub EBG structures which have controllable bandgap in frequency, and the structures give us a method against PPN which adapts multiband frequency in wireless communication. Different voltage distributions along open stub dependent on frequencies make control of bandgap frequency possible by properly selecting a position of a loaded capacitive patch. Additionally, we report results of equivalent circuit analysis and measurement of evaluation boards with the structures.
