Design and Evaluation of Magnetic Field Tolerant Single Flux Quantum Circuit

Abstract(in English) One of promising applications of a single flux quantum (SFQ) circuit is a read-out circuitry for multi-channel superconductive sensor array. In such applications, the SFQ read-out circuit is expected to operate outside a magnetic shield. We investigated an SFQ circuit structure, which is tolerant to external magnetic field, using the AIST 2.5 kA/cm^2 Nb standard 2 process having 3 Nb wiring layers. By covering the whole circuit using the upper Nb wiring layer called the control (CTL) layer, influences of the external magnetic field can be avoided. We experimentally evaluated inductance of wiring layers underneath the CTL shielding layer to design the magnetic field tolerant circuit. We implemented and measured the test circuit comprising the toggle flip-flop (TFF) to evaluate its magnetic field tolerance. The operating margin and the maximum operating frequency of the test circuit did not deteriorate with increase in the applied magnetic field to the TFF, whereas the operating margin of the conventional TFF, which doesn't have the shielding layer, is sensitive to the applied magnetic field. We have also demonstrated the high-speed operation of the designed TFF operated in the completely unshielded environment at the frequency of up to120 GHz with the wide operating margin.
