Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a tone mapping operation (TMO) with fixed-point arithmetic for high dynamic range (HDR) images expressed in RGBE format. A TMO generates a low dynamic range (LDR) image from a HDR image by compressing its dynamic range. In general, it uses floating-point arithmetic because HDR images are floating-point data.Because of this, it requires huge computational cost even though a resultant LDR image is a integer data. The proposed method treats a floating-point number as two integer numbers which correspond to a exponent part and a mantissa part. Moreover, by branching and approximation of some calculations, the method can perform all calculation of a TMO with only fixed-point arithmetic. Experimental results shows the PSNR of LDR images in the proposed method are comparable to those of the conventional methods.
