Expectations for Network Function Virtualization and Software Defined Networking Technologies from Carrier Network Infrastructure

Abstract(in English) Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technology and Software Defined Networking (SDN) technology are being developed and standardized rapidly, that enhance higher resource utilization and availability by flexible function deployment on computing resource and corresponding traffic routing, especially in data center region. This paper overviews current NFV and SDN technology trends and discusses expectations for NFV and SDN in terms of carrier network infrastructure. We are researching virtualized networking technology for optical transport and packet routing layer, which enhances flexibility of traffic control and resource re-allocation, for the purpose of further resource utilization and availability of carrier network infrastructure. This article also introduces research status of this technology, that optimizes network-wide resource allocation in response to environmental changes such as failures or unexpected traffic fluctuations, and enhance resource deployment optimization of service-layers by advanced networking.
