Power Saving Control in IEEE802.16m for Mobile Router

Abstract(in English) Mobile routers are widely used to connect wireless LAN stations (STAs) with the Internet. Mobile routers have two functions; one is the terminal function for the mobile network such as 3G, LTE, WiMAX and so on, the other is the access point function for the wireless LAN. In addition, mobile routers are concerned with two power saving functions both for mobile network and for wireless LAN. These two functions, however, do not operate in collaboration with each other. Furthermore, it is expected that the consumed power is reduced by means of collaborative operation for two functions. This paper focuses on the IEEE802.16m mobile station (AMS) as the terminal for the mobile network of mobile router. In the IEEE802.11 wireless LAN, the AP informs STAs of traffic information by means of beacons. Using this mechanism in the proposed method, the timing of the traffic indication from IEEE802.16m base station (ABS) is adjusted according to the creation timing of beacon at the mobile router. As a result, the delay from the packet arrival time at the ABS to the creation time of beacon is decreased, and the consumed power is decreased because the opportunity of the traffic indication from IEEE802.16m ABS is reduced.
