Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We utilize other walker's body direction, gaze direction, and head direction to perceive their walking direction and to avoid collision to them. Previous studies employed perceptual or cognitive judgments of observers. We employed participants' active or behavioral response to approaching walkers (collision avoidance) to test effects of head direction on walking direction perception. We found that the participants steered themselves in the opposite direction to other walker's head direction even when the walker's head direction was not necessarily the same as turning direction.
