Performance Comparison of Error Correcting Codes for BICM-OFDM Systems

Abstract(in English) Turbo code and LDPC code are well known as effective error correcting codes that can approach Shannon limit. Likewise, orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is known to achieve high spectral efficiency over fading channels. However, in order to achieve high spectral efficiency as well as frequency diversity provided by multipath, it is necessary to combine OFDM with coded modulation. In this work, we make a comparison among convolutional code, turbo code, and LDPC code in bit interleaved coded modulation (BICM)-OFDM system, and evaluate its performance in terms of decoder complexity and achievable frame error rate.
