Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The growth plate is a component of a long bone, where the growth of the bone occurs. Then its damage results in the restriction of the growth of the bone. Although it's such an essential component of the bone, its detailed shape, position and orientation have yet to be investigated. Then, as the first step, we attempted to analyze these parameters of the growth plate quantitatively. First we created a surface model for the distal surface of the femoral growth plate from its MR images and its coordinate system determined solely from its shape. Using the positional relationship between this growth-plate coordinate system and the femoral coordinate system, we evaluated the position and orientation of the growth plate relative to the femur. The features of its shape were also analyzed by using the higher moments of the axial coordinate of the model points. Consequently, the growth plate was verified to lean both anteriorly and laterally, and to curve disto-proximally.
