Self-optimization of Transmit Power in LTE Heterogeneous Network

Abstract(in English) To cope with rapid increase of mobile traffic, network capacity is required to be expanded urgently and cost-effectively. In this situation, SON (Self Organizing Network) technologies are promising. SON is a set of functions for automatic configuration and optimization of mobile networks, aiming to reduce their capital and operational expenditures and to provide higher communication qualities. In this paper, we propose a transmit power optimization technologies for small cells in LTE heterogeneous network. The proposed method predicts user throughput for each candidate transmit power and determine the optimal power so as to maximize the throughput performance. Resource block usage for neighboring cells is required in the user throughput prediction and two collection methods are considered. One is to collect resource block usage via X2 interface, the other is to estimate resource block usage using the measurement reports by the users. It was confirmed that the proposed technologies improved cell edge user throughput by up to 50% without degrading the average user throughput. Almost the same performance was obtained even without coordination between macro cell and small cell base stations.
