Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) SDR (software de ned radio) has let radio research developments of physical layer free from hardware, and made it possible to design and implement our ideas by software. This paper introduces how to build an underwater acoustic communication system using SDR, which has been often applied to the elec- tromagnetic wave. It is difficult for new researchers to join this area since there are few articles published in Japan about underwater acoustic communication and researches have been done by dedicated hardware equipment with expensive underwater acoustic transducers. This paper shows how to construct a simple and inexpensive test bed for underwater acoustic communication using commercially available hydrophones as acoustic transducers. Since the center frequency of underwater acoustic communication is usually about the order of 10kHz, which is low as from one thousandth to one hundred-thousandth of that of micro-wave systems, more complicated signal processing can be easily introduced.
