An optimization method using sparsity of DCT coeficients and image quality distortion

Abstract(in English) We propose a method that optimizes coding rate and distortion of JPEG via sparse representation. However, in this optimization, evaluating the coding rate is generally difficult to solve. Instead, in our previous method, we seek to minimize the weighted sum of l_0-norm of DCT coefficients and distortion(MSE) using Don't Care Region and Transform Domain Bounding Box Strategy. In this paper, we proposed a new method for automatically estimating Lagrange parameter that controls the relative importance of rate to distortion using quality parameter and DCT coefficients. Experimental results showed that our method outperformed unoptimized JPEG compression by up to 9.1% in coding rate.
