A Control Method on AP against Selfish Terminals with Greedy MAC Parameters over WLAN

Abstract(in English) The wireless LAN can usually provides fair communications by using CSMA/CA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) of IEEE802.11. However, it is known that MAC parameters of the terminals can be modified. Therefore, in the wireless LAN environment, it is possible that a terminal with the modified greedy MAC parameters for improving throughput is used. We define the terminal as a selfish terminal. If the selfish terminal is used, it is expected that the bandwidth distribution becomes unfair. As a result, the selfish terminal negatively affects the normal terminals that use the standard parameters. In order to overcome this problem, a detection method of the selfish terminals has been proposed. In addition, there are some methods for controlling the priority of each flows. However, they do not consider about the selfish terminal. This paper proposes a new method by sending CTS (Clear to Send) from AP to the terminals that can restrain the transmission chance of the selfish terminal. Simulation results show that the proposed method can restrain the throughput of the selfish terminal effectively.
