Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Satellite laser communication, whose transmission channel characteristics are different from those of radio-frequency channels, will be a part of next-generation high-capacity communication networks covering earth and deep-space, and is expected to be developed. However, in the direct link between satellite and ground the laser beam passes through the air and the received optical power fades because of the air scintillation. Therefore, channel coding techniques are indispensable for the free-space optical link to obtain a stable and higher-quality transmission. In this report we introduce the channel model of the downlink satellite-to-ground laser communication and the channel coding schemes suitable to the channel. Also, future prospectives of them are briefly described.
