A method of detecting emergency warning signal in ISDB-T terrestrial digital television standard

Abstract(in English) Television and radio broadcasting stations in Japan would send emergency warning signal in case of possibility of significant earthquakes and tsunami by a request of local government or the Meteorological Agency. Some televisions and radios are capable of turning on the power and tuning the emergency program themselves when the emergency warning broadcasting. The essence of the self power-on mechanism is that the television or the radio listens to a specific broadcasting station even when the main power switch is off. Especially, According to ISDB-T (Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial) digital television broadcasting specification standard, emergency warning signal is sent in a digital format. Therefore, comparing it with a television with the other standard, the power consumption of the detection circuit for ISDB-T emergency warning signal could be reduced because of the ISDB-T emergency warning is embedded and indicated in the digital control information. For detecting emergency warning, this paper proposes using parity bits, in addition to the emergency warning bit, in the digital control information.
