Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Despite recent advancements in machine translation technology, it is still very difficult to obtain highly accurate translations. Inaccurate translation prevents effective communication between individuals and leads to misunderstandings. To avoid misunderstandings, users communicating via machine translation systems need to confirm the accuracy of their own messages. There are the following two methods of translation accuracy evalua-tion an automatic evaluation and a subjective evaluation. In these methods, accuracy is judged by comparing an original text and its translated text. We think that the reference to original texts affects adequacy of judgment. In this paper, we analyze the influence of reference to original texts in evaluation for translation accuracy. From the result of our analysis, we found that evaluators tend to underestimate accuracy of translated sentences in the existing subjective evaluation.
