Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In subband image coding, the optimum frequency band partition which segments the 2-D frequency domain based on the power or kurtosis of subband signals has been proposed in order to improve the coding performance. However, the coding performance of the optimum frequency band partition with kurtosis is inferior to the previous method with signal power by depending on the contents of input image and the coding rate. This paper presents new optimum frequency band partition which can determine new partition pattern on the 2-D frequency domain by comparing both previous optimum frequency band partition patterns. It is seen in the experimental results that PSNR of the proposed method is 0.5[dB] better than both previous methods.
