Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The purpose of this research is the automatic detection of major objects in a still image. To develop the techniques of automatic detection of major objects is a challenging task in many fields such as object recognition and image retrieval. We propose an algorithm to detect major objects by using visual attention model based on the early process of the human vision. In the proposed algorithm, we aimed at achiving the automatic detection of major objects by combining the saliency map that extracts perceptually salient features and the segmented image that acquires the boundary of each region. We compare our method with the other methods using the quantitative evaluation with ground truth, and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
