Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Currently several countries has opened TV white space frequency bands to be used by the secondary radio systems without causing harmful interference to the primary radio systems. Some other counties are in the process of developing radio regulations for the white space frequency bands. In response to the new spectrum opportunities, the IEEE 802 committee has been developing several standards defining radio systems operating in white space frequency bands. The two of them that are finalized or almost finalized are IEEE 802.11af and 802.22. IEEE 802.11af is extending WiFi to the white space frequency bands. IEEE 802.22 is intended to provide cost-effective wireless. Internet access to fixed users in rural areas. This paper analysis the potential of IEEE 802.11af and 802.22 radio systems in white space frequency bands. Using QualNet simulation, we have analyzed single cell performance of both systems in three steps. First, we have obtained transmission data rate as a function of SNR. Second, based on the results of the first step we have determined coverage area for different parts of TV white space frequency bands. Third, we have obtained single cell capacity for different number of users.
