LTE Small Cell Enhancements and Phantom Cell Concept

Abstract(in English) The anticipated future traffic growth is so tremendous that, besides further spectrum efficiency enhancements, there is a vastly increased need for further network densification and utilization of higher and wider frequency bands. In this paper, we first explain about our proposed. Phantom cell concept for overlaying high density small cells using higher frequency bands over existing macro cells in lower frequency bands. Then, we summarize the recent trends on the currently ongoing discussions on small cell enhancement (SCE) in 3GPP LTE Release 12. Finally, we introduce our Future Radio Access (FRA) demo simulator to demonstrate the potential capacity gains that can be provided by the deployment of higher density and wider-band transmission Phantom cells and for the exploitation of Massive MIMO in higher frequency bands.
