An Elemental Study of MAC Protocol for Cognitive Radio and Introduction of Integrated Simulator

Abstract(in English) This paper introduces the elemental techniques of MAC protocol for distributed cognitive radio systems. First, the spectrum sharing among the distributed wireless systems is detected in the field environment of wireless LAN (WLAN), where WLAN is the standard of IEEE 802.11. From the field experiment, from the detection of the ACK signal which indicates the success of receiving packet, we recognize the packet loss due to collision, the adaptive control of data rate for maintaining the robustness of co-channel interference, and the simultaneous accessing among the distributed wireless systems. Second, we introduce the parallel control between carrier sensing and transmit power for the enhanced MAC protocol. After this, we clarify the impact of the cumulative interference, the virtual node effect, and the packet supplying algorithm of TCP layer. Third, we show the concept of integrated simulator for evaluating the enhanced MAC protocol. From the integrated simulator, the recursive control of carrier sensing and transmit power achieves the high throughput performance.
