Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In linguistics, homographs are words of like spelling but different meanings. For instance, in English, the word bear could mean to carry or the animal. Thus, the intended meaning of a homograph depends on the context in which it occurs. This concept is extended in this paper to multi-user communications to achieve zero-interference communications over an interference-limited channel. Rather than sending different data signals to the different receivers, we devise a communication strategy where one signal is transmitted to all receivers. This "super-signal" is carefully designed such that it conveys a different meaning to each receiver, the meaning being the data symbol desired by the receiver. As only one signal is transmitted, the interference problem is rendered obsolete. An illustrative example of the proposed precoding strategy with modulo-integer congruence relations is provided, and numerical examples are included to confirm the validity of the approach. The required transmit power, though larger than that in the interference-free case scenario, is yet shown to be smaller than the transmit power required to treat the interference as noise. This work suggests a constructive approach to interference mitigation toward which today's interference-ridden wireless access networks could evolve.
