Performance Evaluation of Parametalized Data Compression Hardware for Floating-Point Data Stream

Abstract(in English) This paper shows the parametalized design and the performance evaluation of data compressors and decompressors for floating-point data stream. We implement the hardware whose input bit widths are 32, 64, 128 and 256 on ALTERA Stratix IV FPGA. The evaluation result shows the area becomes larger when input bit width increase. But when the input bit widths are 32 and 64, the area are less than 10 % of the total resource on the FPGA if 4 sets of the compressor and the decompressor are implemented. The hardware can operate at more than 200MHz when bit widths are 32 and 64. Average compression ratios are 3.5 for 32 bit and 4.5 for 64 bit on test data compression.
