Optimization of Routing and Radio Resource Allocation in Cognitive Wireless Mesh Networks Using TV White Space

Abstract(in English) Cognitive Radio Technology has been developed to solve serious issue in wireless communications, shortage of radio frequency for mobile communications. It utilizes unused spectrum band called white space and improve radio resource usage. In a previous research using TV white space band for cognitive wireless mesh networks, a centralized management scheme using database to avoid interference to the primary system has been proposed, and its feasibility study has been also done using real TV spectrum bands. In such cognitive wireless networks, efficiency of radio resource usage can be optimized by minimizing concentration of traffic and interference among the secondary systems. In this paper, we formulate an optimization problem to optimize the cognitive wireless mesh network, and develop a heuristic algorithm to obtain near optimum solution in short time. Our experimental results show that the proposed scheme has better network throughput than conventional scheme using shortest hop route.
