EEG Classification With Weighted Samples by Joint Tensor Diagonalization

Abstract(in English) We present a novel method based on joint tensor diagonalization for estimating the covariance matrix of EEG data during a mental task to find common spatial patterns (CSP) which are widely used for feature extraction in brain machine interfacing (BMI). For the same mental task, we measure an multichannel EEG several times and obtain the corresponding covanance matrix, which will be averaged over all the trials to determine the covanance matrix. We propose to use a weighted average instead of the simple (uniform) averaging. The weight coefficients are found by joint diagonahzation of data tensor composing of EEG data at several trials for the same task The underlying idea behind this method is motivated by the fact that finding a CSP is equivalent to joint diagonalization of two covanance matrices of different tasks Numerical experiment of motor imagery (MI) classification supports the analysis.
