Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) can be localized into nanometer scale regions beyond the limitation of the diffraction theory. SPPs enable us to develop new ultra-fast ultra-small photonic functional devices by introducing interactions by use of an electro-optic (EO) effect or nonlinear optic effect. Various SPP waveguides and SPP passive circuits have been proposed and several experimental results have been reported. However, there are few reports for studies on EO plasmonic functional devices. This might come from the difficulties with the selective excitation of SPP modes and with the separation of SPP signals from background lights. In this report, we propose Au-LiNbO3 symmetric SPP waveguides for new EO plasmonic devices. It is composed of two LiNbO3 films sandwiched by three Au films. Slot-antenna arrays are also fabricated on either or both the top/bottom Au film for selective coupling to a SPP mode with a high contrast. In this report, the device analysis, design, fabrication and basic experimental results for light coupling are presented.
