Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In contrast to the current Internet, which uses IP addresses in the roles of both IDs and locators, the New Generation Network or future Internet would use disjoint numbering spaces for IDs and locators. Based the ID/locator-split concept, we have proposed HIMALIS (Heterogeneity Inclusion and Mobility Adaptation through Locator ID Separation) architecture, in which mobility, multihoming, heterogeneous network protocols, and multiple routing domains are natively incorporated. This paper presents an overview of HIMALIS data plane functions, their implementation in Linux and performance evaluation in terms of throughputs and latencies in comparison with the conventional TCP/IP, Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE), and Network Address Translation (NAT). The experiment results indicate that the HIMALIS's throughputs and latencies are similar to the TCP/IP stack's although the former carries out additional functions of ID/locator mapping for heterogeneous network-layer protocol support. We have also developed a simulation system over ns-3 to investigate in detail the behavior of HIMALIS protocol stack in the whole network system.
