Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) OCR process for scientific documents requires special treatment by the existence of mathematical expressions and graphical diagrams. Although we can find many research papers related to mathematical formula recognition in the literature today, few OCR software has the capability of formula recognition. In the lecture, after pointing out that there are special non-commercial but serious needs for mathematical formula recognition, we present the current state of our OCR system for scientific documents with demonstration. Then, our strategy to realize stable structure analysis of math expressions against miss-recognition of characters is briefly sketched. Finally, several problems will be presented as hot subjects of research, in one hand, from the viewpoint of large scale of digitization of mathematical journals and, in another hand, from accessibility technology fields such as the scene of the production of multimedia school text books or Braille texts for visually impaired or dyslexic students.
