Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Numerous electronic travel aids (ETA) for visually impaired people have been proposed. However, they often take a long time to scan and understand the surrounding environment. In this paper, we propose a novel ETA based on combination of 1-D line depth sensing and 2-D tactile display. We conducted an experiment to compare the efficiency of the proposed system compared to the existing device. The result showed that with the proposed device, users could detect obstacles more efficiently while walking.
