Study on delay measurement method for OTT voice communication services in mobile networks

Abstract(in English) For over the top (OTT)voice communication services in mobile networks, there are several quality degradation factors (speech quality, delay, speech level, echo etc.). Therefore, quality design based on characteristic of these factors and quality of experience (QoE)are important approach for service providers. However, measure- ment methods of these factors in such services have not worked sufficiently. In this paper, we show characteristics of delay that is one of major quality degradation factors for OTT voice communication services in mobile networks. First, we analyzed characteristics of delay variant and proposed one-way delay at start and end points of voice ac- tivity duration as indices of delay variant. Next, we measured these indices for some voice communication services and gave some considerations for delay measurements.
