Abstract(in English) This research develops a visual-haptic communication system that reproduces stiffness of unknown ob- jects in remote place in real-time. Communication of visual data and haptic data is needed to reproduce the stiffness. However, if communication bandwidth is not wide enough, non-negligible loads from visual data to communication devices induce large communication delay, and the reproducibility of the stiffness of objects is deteriorated conse- quently. This research proposes the image processing algorithm that divides a captured image frame into blocks and transmits high priority blocks by packets including haptic data. Analytical results and experimental results show that the proposed method improves the quality of visual-haptic communication.
