Abstract(in English) | In a multi-tenant data center, a proper assignment of tenants' virtual overlay networks on the physical underlay network is indispensable for sharing total bandwidth of the physical network effectively and tolerating net- work failures. In this report, for increasing performance and availability of the virtual networks, we first formulate the problem that deals with the effective bandwidth of a virtual network, which is defined by the difference between available bandwidth allocated to the virtual network and loss of the bandwidth when the failure of an element oc- curs in the physical network. Then, we provide procedures to recover from the failure, and propose a model for the virtual network's recovery time from the failure in the physical network. In the proposed model, the recovery time depends on the degree of concentration of the virtual network elements on the physical network elements. Finally, using computer simulations, we confirm that when we assign the virtual networks so as to maximize the sum of their effective bandwidth, the virtual networks can fully utilize the physical bandwidth, while the total downtime is reduced to one-third as compared to the assignment for maximizing the sum of available bandwidth of the virtual networks. |
