Formation of Multiferroic Photonic Crystals with TGG and PZT film

Abstract(in English) We recently proposed optical microcavities comprising magneto-optical (MO)and electro-optical (EO) films which can modulate the polarization states of light beams without changing the magnetization direction of the MO films. This proposal implied the applicability of paramagnetic materials to the non-reciprocal optical modulation working at the whole visible wavelengths. Here we report on the modulation characteristics of the fabricated microcavities made from amorphous terbium gallium garnet (a-TGG)and lead zirconate titanate (PZT),The highly crystalline PZT film was formed on the (111)-oriented indium film. while the a-TGG film sandwiched between two Bragg mirrors was formed. The enhancement of the polarization rotation angle was observed together with a shift of the resonant wavelength with EO effects.
