Generating a lambda map in spatial adaptive TV filter

Abstract(in English) TV filter is a non-linear filter that can remove Gaussian noise effectively. However, it has a drawback that the detailed part of the image is likely to be overly blurred, while the edge part is well preserved. It can be improved if the smoothing parameter λ is spatially changed according to the local statistics around each pixel. To solve this problem, we formerly proposed a concept of λ surface model to obtain an appropriate λ map for each degraded image. In this paper, we propose how to generate a reliable λ surface through the optimization and verify, through several experiments, that the modified λ map can improve the quality of the images restored by spatial adaptive TV filter.
