Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, an image resizing technique is required to perform the resizing of an image while keeping the shape of main objects in the image on the displays of small information terminals such as smart phones and tablets. In order to fulfill this requirement, the principal methods such as seam carving and orthogonal resizing methods had been proposed so far. In particular, however, objects of interest such as human's bodies and objects in the target image are frequently strained by the orthogonal resizing methods with simply using the visual saliency or the gradients of the image as importance degrees of pixels. To cope with this problem, in this study, we propose an image resizing method using depth information of the image to prevent unnatural and undesirable deformation of the objects of interest. Concretely, in order to diffuse the importance degrees of the pixels properly on the same object, in this paper, the edge-preserving smoothing with the bilateral filter which incorporates the depth information is used. Then a present orthogonal nonlinear resizing method is applied to obtain a well-resized image.
